Learn Spanish in Cocula, Mexico (The Cradle of the Mariachi). Students will stay at local family homes to experience the hospitality, friendliness, culture and homemade Mexican cuisine. The Spanish Classes will be held in Cocula.  Live and experience the way the locals live their lives and practice your Spanish with them. Go on fieldtrips to Guadalajara/Tlaquepaque/Tonala/Agua Caliente/Chimulco/El Salto/La Presa.
Cocula is a municipality and town in the Mexican state of Jalisco.  It is located 35 miles southwest of Guadalajara.  Cocula is a growing area for sugar cane, corn, agave, sorghum, chickpeas, alfalfa and mangoes.  Some livestock are also raised, especially pigs, poultry, goats, and cattle.  Cocula is referred to as “La Cuna del Mariachi,” or “The Cradle of the Mariachi,” given that the mariachi music originated there in the 19th century. Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco, is a beautiful city located in West Central Mexico and is the second largest city in Mexico.  Guadalajara has year round dry and warm weather.  Guadalajara has a lot to offer including site seeing, great restaurants, shopping and more.  We will be going on fieldtrips to Guadalajara.  For more information about Cocula explore http://www.sitv.com.mx and for Guadalajara go to http://www.Guadalajara.com

 

This is a Total Spanish Immersion program designed for Beginning-Intermediate, Intermediate and or Advanced Adult students only (21+).  This program will be conversational based, verb conjugation and some grammar.  Students will be taking Spanish for 4 hrs. per day (2 hrs. in the morning and 2 hrs. in the afternoon, for 4 days per week—if doing 2 consecutive wks. we will do the same for the following week.  Students will go on 2 all-day fieldtrips (Guadalajara, Tlaquepaque/Tonala, Agua Caliente/Chimulco, El Salto/La Presa) on 2 of the days—if doing 2 consecutive weeks, we will go on 2 more different fieldtrips, for the second week; we will of course practice our Spanish, during the fieldtrips.  In Guadalajara we will do sightseeing of beautiful historic arquitecture such as, Guadalajara Cathedral, Government Palace, Cabanas Cultural Institute, etc.  In Tlaquepaque/Tonala we will sightsee and this will be your opportunity to buy art, crafts,  pottery and more.  In Agua Caliente/Chimulco we will go swimming in their natural hot spring swimming pools.  In El Salto we will go hiking up to a beautiful waterfall.  In La Presa we will go hiking and on a picnic day.  Besides all of the above you will have the opportunity to practice your Spanish at all of the local shops:  candy shops, el Mercado, el tianguis (farmers market), restaurants, etc.  We may also have the opportunity to take Mexican Folkloric Dancing classes, if available at the time of our stay.  Airport transportation will be taken care of both ways.
